IC INFORMATIONCharacter Name: Relena Peacecraft
Canon: Gundam Wing
Canon Point: End of Preventers Chapter
Background:Suitability: Relena is a political entity with an interest in peacekeeping and disarmament. Her pacifistic nature would drive her to try and involve herself in the politics between the factions, but the element of monsters and magic would challenge her beliefs and her stance as a person who believes in resolution through peace talks and negotiations. Should her pacifism extend to monsters if they are sentient? Is the nature of the world enough to push her into a corruption arc? Would she rise in rank and help make pushes towards peace or would be end up in a position where she must learn to fight and stomach participating in bloodshed? Would her resolve towards total pacifism stand surefooted or would it be shaken by elements she has never faced before?
Relena is used to being smack dab in the middle of a war, as well. As a girl who was a target for political enemies due to her reputation and sway as a princess of the Sanc Kingdom, she is used to the difficulties that come with contesting old ideals and the methods with which politicians will use to gain their advantage. She has been held as a political hostage more than once and dealt with threats against her life on these occasions. She pulls through with her resilience and her penchant for being reckless and fearless. Death does not scare Relena Peacecraft. Failure in her mission to bring peace to the world is her real fear. That lack of fear and propensity for recklessness would push her through getting involved in whatever faction she aligns with - or ending up a mediator if plot allows - without hesitation. She will want to help resolve the current political conflicts with her best attributes: her skill with words and passion for peace and equality. Even if she's putting herself at risk to accomplish this, she will aim forward and seek to reduce casualties and, she would hope, the amount of fighting occurring.
The familiarity with complex political situations and the strength and challenges of her personal philosophies would make her an ideal candidate for interacting in the game.
Powers: Relena is a normal human without any abilities.
PERSONALITY QUESTIONSDescribe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them. The assassination and death of her adoptive father, Vice Minister Darlian, and the revelation that she was the princess of the Sanc kingdom is the groundwork of her philosophy and the kick off point for her involving herself in the greater politics of her world. He, too, was a pacifist as well as her biological parents. While revenge was her first instinctive action following his death, she soon decided that she would put all of herself into achieving peace and creating a place for soldiers to find relief and build lives without fighting.
His dying in front of her may have also been fuel for her preexisting penchant for recklessness and even her sometime suicidal approach to running head first into dangerous situations even though she's unable to protect herself. It may also be a large reason we see her wanting Heero's company, but also inviting him to end her life at any time.
Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?Pacifism is the driving force behind her politics and her very existence in the series. Despite supporting the actions of the main pilots, she seeks to create a world where true peace exists. Though she once believed total disarmament would resolve the conflict coming to a boil between OZ and the colonies, she suffered the consequences of her naive views on peace and learned that taking guns away from people will not stop war. The hearts and minds of people are what must be changed. Despite her heavy focus on pacifism as a person, she is trying to be more realistic about how to truly achieve peace among everyone in her world. She has realized there is no 'quick fix' and that peace will come from ongoing, relentless efforts in the political playground and in front of the people of Earth who will be affected by her efforts. She cannot rely on her family's legacy to bring peace to the world. She must put all of herself into her work.
Upon entry, trying to involve herself one way or another in the conflicts occurring in Abraxas so that she can negotiate talks and bring more peaceful resolutions to the people here will be a goal of hers even if it means risking her life or losing something important to her.
What quality or qualities do they admire most?Relena admires people with the resolve to fight for what they truly believe in. While her self-doubt leads her to believe she has not yet accomplished building this resolve within herself, it's that resolve that makes her admires the Gundam pilots. They are able to push forward, overcome their personal weaknesses and risk their lives for their missions. Over the years, she has become more the type of person who has that kind of resolve and dedication. While still naive in some ways, she has made her vision of peace more grounded in the reality of the world around her. She has attainable goals and understands the hearts of the people better than she did when she first discovered that she was a princess. By looking at the people around her - the pilots, her brother and even her political opponents - she has shaped herself into being closer to what she envisions is a strong, political entity capable of making real change. Living as a diplomat connecting to other factions as opposed to being the ruler of a kingdom is how she hopes to accomplish spreading her ideals of goodwill and equality into the world.
Relena truly values people who have the power to protect others. Seeing her father die in front of her after a successful assassination attempt truly shook her as a person. That was the moment where she realized that she felt powerless in her world. Those who can protect and those who are willing to lose in order to protect the lives of others are her most favored people. When she reestablishes the Sanc kingdom as a completely disarmed, pacifistic nation to set an example for the rest of the world, she suffers the consequences of this bold attempt to challenge her political rivals in the Romefeller Foundation. She is forced to dissolve the Sanc kingdom once more in order to cease attacks and save the people living there. It is during her time in the Sanc kingdom that she realized she did not yet have the ability to protect others while also maintaining her idealistic goals. It is here where she most shows her admiration towards Heero and Quatre who are able to do more to protect those around them - and her - while also lamenting her own powerlessness.
Kindness is something Relena had struggled with in her past. She was a very emotionally shut off child due to her infancy trauma when her parents were assassinated and her castle was burned. While she is much better at exhibiting kindness to others now, she upholds others who are capable of showing kindness earnestly despite their own traumas and internal conflicts. While the pilots are all emotionally complicated and struggle with trauma, they are all still capable of exhibiting kindness to each other and to civilians. During Endless Waltz, they have even come to a point where they can throw a fight in order to keep from killing their opponents. This kindness through hardships is something she hopes to harness even more within herself so she can grow into an even better person in her own eyes.
Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?Returning to the above, while she admires others who can protect those around them, she struggles with the fact that she does not have the ability to protect people. Her father died protecting her and she could do nothing about it. When the Sanc kingdom fell, she could do little to protect the people there and had to rely on the Gundam pilots for assistance. She realizes often that her pacifistic beliefs are also an obstacle in the way of her keeping people safe while military forces and private factions are still active with violent approaches to gaining power. She has yet to find a good way to balance her desire for a completely nonviolent way of life and her understanding that the world just isn't in a place yet where violent conflict isn't a reality.
It is only recently that Relena has started to feel that she is more effective as a diplomat and political presence. She is not a person who wavers in her efforts to change the world, but she does have doubts in her ability to really make the changes she wants. She will always strive for change as she is now, but due to her age and lack of experience, she suffers from the 'what ifs'. She wishes there was more she could do and it frustrates her that sometimes she just can't do as much as she hopes to. She is willing to sacrifice her life for change, but she knows even that is not always enough to turn the tides despite her popularity from her father's legacy and her own time as a princess and queen being the perfect combination to make her a good candidate for martyrdom. She feels that there are leagues more that she should be able to do in the time she's been doing them despite it being unrealistic pressure she has put on herself.
What is their sign, and why? Death - Relena is nothing if not persistent throughout the length of Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz. She is determined to make the changes in the world her father and adoptive father wanted to see. She wants an end to pain and to see the tides of change affect the world in a way that brings equality, unity and peace. While she has developed from being too idealistic into someone with a growing and more grounded view of what 'true peace' will be in the future of the world, she hasn't stepped away from that goal of peace since she set forth to accomplish it. It does not matter to her if she gets to experience the realization of that peace so long as she is committed to that change and works until her last breath to accomplish it. In her current state, she is more patient about this even if at times she is clearly frustrated by her perceived weaknesses. She knows now that it will take more time than she would have thought at 15 when her journey truly started.
Despite everything, even threats of violence against her by Heero and the other pilots, she has stuck by them and believed in them without wavering. When she comes to believe in someone, it takes a lot to break that loyalty. She will put herself on the line for those that mean most to her and will not run away when things are difficult. She knows there is no payoff without sacrifice and commitment. She knows people can't trust in her without her trusting in them. If they plan to stay by her and help her in achieving her goal, she will give everything to them and will help them to succeed any way she can.
